Hey guys, these are my Madman entries about the Mongol Empire. As you can see I chose to write about the different questions that were listed for us to answer. Enjoy!
Entry 1: How did the Mongol Empire acquire power?
The main reason the Mongol army became strong at first is not because of it’s population, since they were able to conquer places that had a lot more people like China. Instead, they had an advantage of their amount of horses and organization. It was said that the amount of horses at that time outnumbered people by several times. Genghis Khan trained his army so that most of his soldiers were horseback riders. In the past, people didn’t have a lot of advanced technology. People counted their physical strengths as most of their power in their daily lives, and on battle as well. This aspect gave the Mongolians the advantage in their battles, since their horses were a lot stronger the their enemies, since most of their rivals did not have as much horses. Most of the horseback riding soldiers were also trained to carry bows and arrows, so that they can kill their targets from a long distance. Shooting on a moving horse was a hard task for some of them, but for a lot of skilled and well trained soldiers, this was a deadly combination.
Entry 2: How did the Mongol Empire become successful?
Only relying on violence was not enough for the Mongols to sustain their power. There were also a few other aspects that led to their domination. First of all, even though Genghis Khan’s army killed a lot of people from their opposing forces, Genghis Khan did spare the lives of the bravest enemy soldiers he fought with in battle. He invited these people to join his army and serve for him, which then made his army more stronger. One story says that he once congratulated an enemy soldier for wounding his face and invited him to be his commander in the Mongol army. The third aspect that made his army more successful was the capital city Genghis Khan’s son built. Instead of killing off everyone from the rival cities, he forced a lot of the talented people to live inside the capital, so that these talented people can share ideas with each other and work together for the Mongol leader. He also encouraged trade throughout the empire.
Entry 3: How did the Mongol Empire influence its population?
Well, after the Mongols turned into the Yuan dynasty, they established the Four Class System rule. Which was basically about promoting the minorities in China to help govern the rest of the Chinese. They did this to control power from the Chinese people, since there was so many of them.
Entry 4: How did the empire interact with other civilizations?
He conquered most of the civilizations he interacted with, but did settle trade with a few of them in the Mediterranean parts of Europe. The trade brought both civilizations wealth and different types of goods, but also led to some spread of diseases such as the bubonic plague. This disease originated from Asia and was brought to the European nations by ship and the silk route.
Entry 5: What led to the empire’s downfall?
In the end, the empire was overthrown by the Ming dynasty. One of the aspects that led to the end of the empire was due to the conflict of its citizens from heavy taxation. People weren’t happy about the amount of money their government charged them. A lot of conflict also occurred from the Four Class System, since it was unfair to most of the people that the minorities were allowed to govern them. And last of all, the government officials soon became corrupted, which also weakened their civilization. This made it a lot easier for the Ming to overthrow them.
