7-7 Hunger Games UPDATED!!
The baking sun rests though the arena. Its really hot, and you guys don’t get water or cover from the sun, you will surely dehydrate and get sun burned.
The sun beat though even the foliage of the trees. With the liquid from the water bottle long gone, Tony goes crazy. He stabs sunny from behind, but she takes his knife and stabs him back. They fall to the ground. Bleeding to death.
Further off, Annie climbs a tree, but finds a tracker-jacker nest! Annie, with four stings, falls, dying. Catherine, below, gets instantly crushed by falling Annie.
Ray: You meet up with. You are very thirsty, but can only get a cupful of water. You change your bandages, and it’s nearly healed. You get some mud with the extra water, trying to camouflage yourself. You don’t get sunburn because of the mud.
Matthew: You are really dehydrated but only allowed a cup of water. You sharpen your weapons. You leave base and look for food. You are really sunburned
Bono: You are really tired from the walk, so you take a drink and then fall asleep. You get sunburned from your sleep.
Andrew: Your arm cut has worsened, but you pour some water on it. You need medicine, other wise you will die. You have bad sunburn.
Gabby: You find Anna, and slip though the forest. The trees give you protection from the sun, but you get a little burned. You are a little hungry, and your water supply is low.
Anna: You find Gabby and slip though the forest. The trees give you protection from the sun, but you get a little sun burned. You are a little hungry, and Gabby s water supply is low.
Bill: You and Kina are in huge pain. With your arm, and her body devoured from the flames, you can only hope. Suddenly, a parachute emerges, your first sponsor! Snatching it up, you look inside it, lies a small pot of medicine. Burn medicine. You apply a think layer on your arm, and pass it to Kina.
Kina: You are in amazing pain, without water and burns all over your body. But then Bill hands you a small pot, inside which you find burn medicine! You rub it all over yourself, your burns instantly calmer. But alas, you are still extremely thirsty. Beware, it may not be the burns, but the dehydration that kills you.
NEXT QUESTION:
Night has arrived and it’s really cold. Almost freezing. What do you do?

Art Response
IB ART reflection
Technology Ruins Tradition, By: Charlotte Kouo
I love this piece because of it’s meaning. The entire pencil is covered in keyboard keys. I agree with the meaning it conveys, as people don't use pencils anymore. Everything is taken over by technology, TV, computers etc. This piece is intricately pieced together, having recycled keyboard pieces stuck onto a large model pencil.

Monica Ren-Worth It?
Monica Ren-Worth It?
This painting is called, Worth It? I found this really clever and funny, because in the painting it is just a paper bag with a fancy pillow, the Chanel logo, and it costs 45,000RMB. I think this is a lot like reality because people buy bags that are bad quality but have a fake logo on it, sometimes the bag is expensive and sometimes it is cheap. If someone sees a bag that has the logo on it and is really expensive, they say, “Oh I am going to be so cool because this bag costs so much and it’s Chanel!” Would you really want to buy a paper bag just because the reputation of the brand? People in this world today classify things based on the brand of the object. This bag is supposedly Chanel, but is it worth it?
Worth It? Monica Ren
"Worth It?" by Monica Ren
This painting is like one of those "When you see it" photos. It takes a few seconds to realize what it means but when you "see" it, it was a deep meaning. This painting is named "Worth It?" because if you look closely at the painting, the Chanel bag really isn't a Chanel. It is a paper bag just with the Chanel logo attached on to it. So is it worth it? Just because there is a Chanel logo attached to it, is it necessary for the price to be as it is? Comment and tell me what you think!
I think this painting is amazing because not only does the painting itself look awesome, the idea and the creativity is just phenomenal. I will never look at Chanel bags the same way.
Lines Come to Life
《Lines Come to Life》
I think this picture is really awesome and creative. At first I think the picture is really creepy, because the lines on the zebra are not connected to the body and I don’t really get this at first, then I read the title of this painting, which is Lines Come to Life, then I knew the lines on the zebra are representing something because they are not connected to the body, and I think it means the lines are alive. I like how the author also drew a hand next to it to show to lines that are formed. I think the best part of this picture is the pencils around it, it really shows a remarkable effect for the picture and it fits really well with the title of the painting. I think this person must be really skillful at art, because the hand and the zebra look so real.

Technology Ruins Tradition By: Charlotte Kouo
I think this art work is really creative and has a deep meaning. As you can see, this is an enormous pencil. But if you look closer, you will be able to see little squares on the sides. The little squares you can see are buttons on keyboard. Nowadays, most of the people are using computer rather than paper and pencil because it's more convenient. I think what the artist is trying to tell is that the tradition of using paper and pencil is getting destroyed because almost nobody is using right now and the artist doesn't want it to be like that. So I think this artwork is really good and meaningful.

Hunger Games 7-7 UPDATED
Night has fallen in the arena. The cannon goes off, and the five faces that died show in the dark sky. You have two choices, stay awake and risk being to tired to continue in the morn, or rest for the night. What do you do?
As Anna and Gauri slip through the woods, Gauri falls down a ditch, twisting her ankle. Anna helps her fashion a crutch out of a dead stick, but Gauri is in huge pain. The noise of her cries, attracts Ben. Anna tries to help Gauri run, but she doesn’t make it. Ben kills Gauri with his fists, but Anna survives. Ben runs off, so exhausted, he passes out one mile away. Sunny and Tony find him, and kill him.
Gabby: You creep down the mountains, and through the now-empty cornucopia. But before you find Anna and Gauri, you see Ben. Stopping, you stay hidden near the mountains. A loud cannon startles you. Someone has died.
Anna: You follow Gauri through the woods silently. But Gauri gets injured, Ben comes and, as much as you try to help her, she doesn’t run away fast enough. Luckily, you get away.
Catherine: You slip through the woods until you make it to the pond. You then rest for a while, you are severely dehydrated, but you have the spring water.
Annie: You slip through the woods until you make it to the pond. You then rest for a while. Severely dehydrated.
Ray: You rest with Andrew for the time. Your mouth is dry from lack of water, but you can last a few more days without water.
Matthew: You stand guard in front of Ray and Andrew. But you tire easily.
Bono: You crunch through the forest, finding a small stream. You fill up all the bottles, but fall asleep by the water instead of hiking back to your group.
Andrew: You rest with Ray for the time.
Kina: You keep watch while Bill sleeps, then sleep yourself. In your sleep, you feel really hot. Bill wakes you up, because a raging fire has emerged. Bill runs away, and you are tied to the tree, luckily, you live, but all your supplies are gone. You are now in the mountains, with only your bow and arrows.
Bill: As Kina sleeps, a huge forest fire comes your way. You wake up Kina, and run out of the forest. Your arm is horribly burned from the fire. You need to find water soon.
Sunny: You stand guard while tony sleeps, and then switch in a few hours. All is well, until you find Ben. You kill him.
Tony: You sleep, and then switch in a few hours. All is well, but then you find ben. With the help of sunny, you kill ben.
Morning has arrived, and most of you have started to get hungry. The capitol is getting bored, so who knows what is going to happen? Email India on what you do when the sun is up.

Hyo Jin runs into Lizzy, who kills her instantly by turning into a werewolf and biting her. Stephanie and Elaine are in an alliance and run into a bear, which mauls them to death but then falls over and dies instantly. Lizzy and Rachel are now head to head, Rachel secretly a vampire and Lizzy a werewolf, the both bite each other and die because I guess they can’t be a vampire and werewolf. Noah has been hiding in a cave with no weapons or food, on a run for food, he runs into Mr. Koch, who says “sexy” and Noah dies from laughing. It is now just Mr. Koch and Eric. They are forced closer by bees, which force them into a lake. Mr. Koch gets board and starts reading; Eric corrects Mr. Koch on vocabulary. This aggravates Mr. Koch and he uses his numb-chuck skills to take him out. He wins.

The Point of No Return
It seemed suicidal at first, to jump off a cliff, but it wasn’t. I could hear young adults behind me, whispering of my eight-meter cliff jump. I already impressed many people. I did not need to go any higher, but the urge clung to me like a magnet, refusing to let go. It was the thrill of jumping off a cliff. It sounds really stupid. You might say I was losing my mind, or even drunk. But I was just being myself.
My family and I traveled to Boracay at the end of 2013, during winter break. While there, we decided to take a lively daylong excursion to one of Boracay’s main attractions, Aerial’s Point. Our jaunt kicked off with a forty-five minute scenic boat ride from Boracay Island. The majestic mountains and the shimmering ocean water made the ride even more relaxing and refreshing. The college students on the boat already started to dull their senses by drinking the inclusive and unlimited beer. All I could drink was coke. Aerial’s point’s crew even had a slogan: “The more you drink, the higher you jump!” After the short forty-five minute period, we arrived at our breathtaking eco-adventure destination.
Our adventure commenced as we departed the boat, headed up the cliff side-whitewashed staircase and settled down at a shaded table. “Why don’t you go and make your first jump?” my mother asked me, as I was taking off my shirt. I aimed toward the wooden plank for the eight-meter jump, not knowing whether I should be excited or nervous. Several people were already lined up. “Why don’t you go ahead of me?” a stranger immediately offered. “Go in front of me instead,” another stranger insisted. They were obviously horrified, and attempted to use kindness to hide their fear.
My strategy was to jump, without hesitation, straight into the ocean. By executing this plan, I would not have time to be pessimistic and think about how high I was jumping from. I walked off the plank and plummeted down into the abyss.
I felt the water gushing into my ears and up my nose. It was a bit painful but it did not daunt me because of my previous swim team practices. I quickly kicked my way back to the surface for a gulp of air. “No harm done!” I yelled to my parents as I climbed out of the water and up a ladder. The moment of triumph was ephemeral because I knew waiting for me was another challenge, the ten-meter jump.
The fire within me extinguished after a few minutes of rest. Even though my energy was dampened, the anticipation of an adrenaline rush enticed me to the wooded plank that stretched out to Poseidon, the wooden plank for the ten-meter jump. I hesitantly walked across the beam. Uh oh. Big mistake. Pessimistic thoughts started zipping through my head like pesky mosquitoes. I wanted to forsake my mission, but visceral feeling prompted me to proceed. Physically, I was a nervous wreck. My legs were trembling, my hands were sweating, and my toes were fidgeting. Emotionally, I was in a battle. Should I jump? Or should I not? It was the thrill of jumping off a cliff. It sounds really stupid. You might say I was losing my mind, or even drunk. But I was just being myself.

Madman, Architect, Carpenter, Judge by Betty Sue Flowers
"What's the hardest part of writing?" I ask on the first day of class.
"Getting started," someone offers, groaning.
"No, it's not getting started," a voice in the back of the room corrects. "It's keeping on once you do get started. I can always write a sentence or two-but then I get stuck."
"Why?" I ask.
"I don't know. I am writing along, and all of a sudden I realize how awful it is, and I tear it up. Then I start over again, and after two sentences, the same thing happens."
"Let me suggest something which might help," I say. Turning to the board, I write four words: "madman," "architect," "carpenter," "judge."

The horn sounds, as loud as 1000 people screaming. People dart off in different directions. Blood, scattering across the Cornucopia. It’s called the blood bath for a reason.
Just before the horn goes off, Michael falls and his stand explodes. Screams echo through the arena. Leah is critically injured from the blow. But as soon as the horn goes, she limps to the cornucopia, grabbing a knife. Creeping behind Kina, she impales her in the leg. Kina, in huge pain, shoves Leah, killing her instantly. Further off, Kina’s partner Bill, is in a stabbing match with Lawrence. Kina comes to his aid, and Lawrence is brutally slain. Not so far off, Andrew pushes Angela to the ground, her neck breaks, and she dies as well. Even further away, Annie and Catherine form a circle around Henry, screams fall in their direction. Once they run off again, only then can one see that Henry has died. In the mountains, Louisa and Eileen have run off to the outside of a cave. But one step into the cave, the ground caves in, the both of them falling to their deaths.
DEATHS:
-Leah
-Michael
-Henry
-Angela
-Lawrence
-Louisa
-Eileen
Bill: You run to the middle of the cornucopia. You grab and throw your teammate Kina an orange bag, but you don’t know what’s inside. Then, you run to the middle of the cornucopia, taking sharp knifes. Lawrence tries to stab you by throwing his knife at you, but misses by a few inches. The two of you get into a fight. Kina comes and saves you, but your badly injured.
Kina: You run with Bill to the middle of the cornucopia, but someone stabs you in the leg before you can get a weapon. You kill them off before they can do major damage. You grab a bow, then help Bill kill Lawrence. Finally, you follow Bill into the woods. Your overall steal is:
Three empty water bottles, a sleeping bag, and dried beef.
Gabby: You run near the edge of the cornucopia, and grab a small orange bag, but you run into Ray. The pack tears, and you grab a small package from the bag. Ray punches you, but you scratch him. You run into the mountains, and open the small package. It contains a few small bandages, and night vision goggles.
Gauri: With Michael exploding, you get injured from flying debris. Injured, you limp away from the cornucopia, following Anna who is in front of you. You go into the heart of the forest. You walk for hours, until you find a small stream. There are fish in the stream, but there is no way to catch them.
Anna: As soon as the horn rings, you run into the forest, with Gauri behind you. You see Kina and Bill run into the woods. Be careful!
Ray: You grab an orange bag near the edge of the Cornucopia, and run into Gabby. You punch her, but she scratches your face. He lives. With your bag you run into the mountains with your group. The scratch wound will be infected easily. Watch out.
Matthew: You run near the middle of the Cornucopia, but can only grab two small, and very sharp, knife. You join Ray, Andrew and Bono at the mountain.
Bono: You grab a small pack next to the two knifes Matthew got. You meet up with Ray and Andrew. The four of you find a small cave, and you use it as a shelter. The small pack you have contains a small rope, and an empty water bottle.
Annie: You run and grab a small pack. You notice Henry is about to kill Catherine, so you then attach him, the both of you killing him. Together you go into the woods. When you open your pack, it reveals you have one full water bottle, and two sleeping bags.
Catherine: You run to a small knife on the outside of the Cornucopia, but then Henry starts to attach you, Annie comes over and the both of you kill Henry. You have small wounds, but together you make it into the forest alive
Andrew: You run towards the middle of the Cornucopia, once you grab a small orange bag, Kina comes and scrapes your whole arm with her sharp knife. Luckily, you survive. You run with the rest of your team to the mountains.
Tony: You sprint to the middle of Cornucopia, grabbing a large pack. With that, you run into the forest, without injuries.
Sunny: You scramble to the edge of the Cornucopia, grabbing two small bags, then, you run and meet with tony, in the forest.
Ben: You run straight away from the cornucopia, into the forest. You then walk into the hear of the forest.
Next Question:
Night has fallen in the arena. The cannon goes off, and the five faces that died show in the dark sky. You have two choices, stay awake and risk being to tired to continue in the morn, or rest for the night. What do you do?

Commas - The Writing Center - UNC Chapel Hill
Beware of popular myths of comma usage:
MYTH: Long sentences need a comma. A really long sentence may be perfectly correct without commas. The length of a sentence does not determine whether you need a comma.
MYTH: You should add a comma wherever you pause. Where you pause or breathe in a sentence does not reliably indicate where a comma belongs. Different readers pause or breathe in different places.
MYTH: Commas are so mysterious that it’s impossible to figure out where they belong! Some rules are flexible, but most of the time, commas belong in very predictable places. You can learn to identify many of those places using the tips in this handout.
