Deforestation

Deforestation

Deforestation is the act of clearing an enormous area of trees or forests. This act of clearing areas of trees is expanding in many parts of the world, causing many acute problems.

Deforestation occurs due to both human causes and natural causes. Clearing of land for agricultural purposes is one of the many human causes, whilst one of the natural causes is lightning.

The effects of deforestation are severe; affecting the biodiversity of the wildlife is one of them. An example of endangered species in the amazon range is the Poison Dart Frog. One of the most hazardous effects of deforestation is global warming and climate change, majorly affecting every single side of the world! In the past century temperatures have been raised by 1.33 Fahrenheit (0.74 Celsius). Due to the change of temperature, glaciers have been melting, raising the sea level. Sea level rises due to the increasing heat, when heat is exposed to the water the atoms expand, raising the sea level. Scientists predict that many cities and countries neighboring the oceans will completely submerge under water by 2050 including London, most parts of Japan and The Maldives.

Although deforestation is a major issue, there have been actions taken by countries and NGO’s (Non-Governmental organization) to solve this problem. Brazil set about the size of France for protection of the amazon in 2002. Indonesia has been helped by Norway on 2010 1st July to set new laws against illegal deforestation (logging). Many NGOs are trying to get as many people to recycle. Many companies buy wooden products with the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) label only, this means that the forest from which the wood was taken is well managed.

Deforestation is a very major issue, which is forcing the world to change negatively. If actions will not be taken, it will lead to many dangerous consequences. We all should take careful steps to lead the world to a right direction. Such as, printing double sided so you can save paper, recycling paper, and growing trees in your backyard. Deforestation is spreading in many parts of the world, by doing these little things you are doing you’re part, which will help save the environment.
