They Loved Your G.P.A. Then They Saw Your Tweets. - NYTimes.com.

"Of 381 college admissions officers who answered a Kaplan telephone questionnaire this year, 31 percent said they had visited an applicant’s Facebook or other personal social media page to learn more about them — a five-percentage-point increase from last year. More crucially for those trying to get into college, 30 percent of the admissions officers said they had discovered information online that had negatively affected an applicant’s prospects."

Wow that is smart to only check the social media if they are unsure or suspicious.

  3. I think that it's interesting that a post on social media can affect your chances of getting into the college you want. I agree with Emerson that you should be cautious about what you post on the internet, don't post things you will regret later.

  4. First of all, I think the comment was really dumb, but even weirder, I don't like how the person was talking about bad things... it didn't matter whether it was on social media or not. The person shouldn't talk bad things and should be more careful. Social media footprints are scary things!

  5. After reading this, I felt that we/people need to use social media carefully to- not only protect yourself, also to help yourself. It can effect a person so much from what they say and post.

  6. Its kinda scary how our social foot footprints always stay there, they never go away. This article helps me realize that we should be careful of what we post on Social Media. As I think somebody said above social posts do reflect who we are.

  7. I've read quite a few other articles similar to this one. I hear a lot about this type of topic since my brother is currently a senior student and I think it's very not thoughtful for high school students to think that its okay to be bad and wild on social media such as facebook and act like such a good student at other times especially on college applications.

  8. I think it is weird how your online life can affect your academic life. I also think that you should always be careful on the internet, as if you parents are behind you all the time watching you, like a guardian angel.

  9. I think we really should be careful about posting pictures on blogs or Facebook and make appropriate comments. I heard that bad comments also make people suicide. I really agree on this article.

  14. I think it is really important of what we post online, I think we should always be careful about it, cause you never know who is going to see it. I heard a lot of people saying this, once you put it there, you will never take it out.
