Stop! Grammar Time!

  • Combining Independent Clauses (compound sentences)

  • Why do you always use this…? Or worse, this….?



  • How have you been taught to punctuate thoughts?



  • “Students, please punctuate dialogue correctly,” Mr. Koch screamed.



  • Passive Voice?  Just use active verbs when you can.
    The passive forms of a verb are created by combining a form of the "to be verb" with the past participle of the main verb.



  • Literature is NOW(and then) – Write in the present tense when talking about books.



  • No weasel statements -  “In this_______I am going to tell you about _____________.” Or any variation thereof!



  • “It is” is the ONLY time to write “it’s”



  • Thesis Statements, Focus statement, what are you going to prove in your paper?After reading The Giver I learned that it is a good book because it shows that planning a society that has everything exactly the same and equal can turn out to have many flaws, and imperfections.For a student, every meal is an important time to charge up our bodies and should be easy to access with reasonable prices and quality of foods.
