Stop! Grammar Time.

-Past/Passed, There/their, two/too

-Combining Independent Clauses (compound sentences)

  • Comma + FANBOYS

  • Semicolon(;)

  • Semicolon(;) + Adverbial Conjunction + comma(,) 


-Commas

  • Let’s eat Grandma

  • Let’s eat, Grandma

  • Grammar Saves Lives


-Why do you always use this…? Or worse, this….?

-How have you been taught to punctuate thoughts?

-“Students, please punctuate dialogue correctly,” Mr. Koch screamed.

-Passive Voice?  Just use active verbs when you can. The passive forms of a verb are created by combining a form of the "to be verb" with the past participle of the main verb.

-Literature is NOW(and then) – Write in the present tense when talking about books.

-No weasel statements -  “In this_______I am going to tell you about _____________.” Or any variation thereof!

-“It is” is the ONLY time to write “it’s”

-Thesis Statements

  • After reading The Giver I learned that it is a good book because it shows that planning a society that has everything exactly the same and equal can turn out to have many flaws, and imperfections.



  • For a student, every meal is an important time to charge up our bodies and should be easy to access with reasonable prices and quality of foods.

  • Many people have wondered which is better, the Xbox OneTM or the PS4TM. Though there are many differences, it always and always will depend on the player’s opinion.
